During the regular exercise cycle, the Kohler generator started sounding different even though it completed the test and no warning appeared. Power has not gone out recently, so I have not seen how it behaves under a real load. I would rather report the model, age, recent maintenance, and what changed in the sound during the test than wait for an outage before asking whether the new behavior is normal.

Generator exercise cycles give me a useful baseline because the sound and duration are usually familiar even when there has been no outage. I’d note the Kohler model, age, recent maintenance, and exactly how the sound changed while the test still completed normally. No warning appearing is worth mentioning because it separates the new noise from an obvious fault message. I’d then take those notes to Kohler Generators customer service before making any adjustments on my own. Describing the normal exercise routine and the new sound together gives a clearer picture than waiting for a real power loss.
