Hi there, we have finally saved up enough budget to replace our squeaky old floorboards with beautiful new hardwood. I have been browsing options for wood flooring Edinburgh suppliers, and I think we have a clear idea of the wood style we want. However, I am completely overwhelmed trying to find a truly skilled installer who knows how to properly prepare a subfloor. Our current joists are uneven and I don’t want to buy premium materials just to have them installed poorly. Did you buy your wood and installation as a package deal, or is it better to buy the materials independently and hire a specialist joiner separately?

In my experience, you almost always get a better deal and higher quality materials if you source the wood yourself from a dedicated specialist rather than relying on what a local contractor happens to have in the back of their van. I bought our engineered flooring directly from http://www.hoffparquet.co.uk/ and then hired an independent floor fitter who specialized specifically in hardwood installation. Companies like that provide incredibly detailed technical specifications for their products, which makes life so much easier for a professional joiner. A good fitter will spend at least a full day just leveling your subfloor and laying the correct underlayment before a single piece of wood even touches the ground. Sourcing the planks independently gave us total control over the grade and finish.
