I’m considering a front door with decorative glass inserts because I like the extra natural light. My concern is whether the glass will reduce insulation and increase heating or cooling costs. For those who have installed decorative glass doors, have you noticed any difference in energy efficiency compared with a solid door?

Do not worry too much about the electricity bills going up if you pick the right core material. We upgraded to a fiberglass unit with a beautiful half-lite decorative glass piece and our heating costs actually went down this past winter. The tight weatherstripping around the frame matters much more than the glass itself when it comes to stopping energy loss. Choosing fiberglass doors summer installation — no warping in heat was the best decision we made because the seal stays tight all year round.
