There is always a temptation to increase the stake when a particular selection looks especially convincing. The problem is that confidence and actual probability are not necessarily the same thing. How do you decide whether a stronger opinion deserves a larger stake? Do you use a fixed amount for every bet, or does your stake change according to your estimated probability and the available price? I am interested in methods that prevent confidence from turning into oversized wagers after a convincing piece of analysis.

Fixed stakes work better for me because confidence can be surprisingly misleading, especially after a few successful picks. I normally risk around the same amount and treat stronger opinions as a reason to research more, not automatically bet more. One useful trick is to decide the stake before looking at the final odds, then compare the two. When using a sport betting site, this keeps me from making emotional adjustments. I also revisit this page when reviewing my betting notes and previous decisions.
