Short-term results can be misleading because a good selection can lose and a poor selection can win. That has made me wonder whether comparing the price taken with the final market price gives a more useful way to judge decisions. Do you track closing prices when reviewing your bets? If your selections regularly become shorter after you place them but your results are mixed, would you consider that evidence that your process is identifying useful prices? I would like to hear how others measure this.

Closing prices are definitely worth tracking, although I wouldn’t use them as the only measure. I’ve had plenty of bets move in my direction and still lose, so I try to judge the process over a much larger sample. Usually I record the opening price, what I actually took and the final market price. After a few months, the pattern becomes much clearer. Even when browsing this site or another sport betting site, I think keeping your own records is more useful than judging yourself by a few wins.
