The starting goaltender seems to be one of the most important pieces of information in hockey, yet I often see people focusing mainly on team records. A strong team can look very different when its usual starter is unavailable. How do you measure the importance of the goaltender when comparing two teams? Do you study save percentage, recent performances, workload or the quality of shots faced? I would be interested in hearing how much this information changes your view before placing a bet.

Goaltending is something I pay much more attention to now than I used to. A team’s record can hide a lot, especially if the regular starter has missed games. Save percentage is useful, but I also look at the quality and number of shots faced because 35 easy saves tells a different story from 25 difficult ones. Before placing a bet, I check the confirmed starter and recent workload. I usually do this when looking through the markets on 1bet as well.
